Hong Kong - April 03, 2012

Styron, the global materials company and manufacturer of plastics, latex and rubber, reinforces its leadership position in China and the region by showcasing sustainable solutions and high performance products at Chinaplas 2012.

Styron products being showcased at Chinaplas (Hall N3; Booth F31) include an array of leading plastics grades for automotive, consumer electronics, home appliances, consumer goods, as well as grades and technologies for lighting and electronics. Innovative products will be introduced at the Styron booth and also during a technical seminar.

“Styron is committed to helping our customers succeed through producing products with outstanding properties and consistent quality in China and the region. We continue to work closely with our customers on product research and development, to develop innovative and sustainable solutions,” said Paul Moyer, Vice President and General Manager, Styron Plastics.

The following are some highlighted products:

Paint-free Solution and Post-Consumer Recycle (PCR) Solution for Plastic Enclosures of ITE Products

EMERGE™ PC 4951 (XQ 83638.00) engineering resin is a special polycarbonate (PC) resin with 10% glass fiber. It is flame retardant, bromine/chlorine free and provides a balance of performance properties for ITE/CE enclosures. Finished products can achieve excellent surface gloss and scratch resistance by using this innovative PC resin.

EMERGE™ 7880ECO resin is an example of Styron’s commitment to develop sustainable solutions for our customers. This resin is a PC/ABS alloy with 50% post-consumer recycle (PCR), which means it contains half material or finished product that has served its intended use and has been discarded for disposal or recovery. Styron is able to supply this resin in stable quality and quantity, as well as UL listing and IEEE 1680 certification, which is an annual quality system audit on manufacturing process and procedures of PCR materials.

Non-paint Solution and New PC/ABS Alloy for Auto Interior

VELVEX™ reinforced elastomers are specially designed for unpainted interior trim applications for the automotive market. It offers better scratch and mar resistance, while maintaining a uniform low gloss compared to established materials, such as most of the talc-filled PP, PA/ABS or ABS products. This advanced resin closes the gap between the need to balance both technical and aesthetic performance - and at affordable costs.

Styron recently launched a new PULSE™ GX series. PULSE™ GX 50 and PULSE™ GX 70 are two tailor-made PC/ABS resins that meet the heat requirements in automotive interior applications. They are low density PC and ABS blends that provide low temperature ductility for safety requirements. PULSE™ GX50 resin has the lowest density among other grades in the series, and with medium heat resistance level. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for auto components that do not require direct exposure to sunlight. PULSE™ GX 70 resin, on the other hand, comes with superior UV and thermal stability. It is designed for auto interior parts that require higher heat resistance.

Slim Solution for Power Adapter and Projector Applications

EMERGE™ PC 8110/8130 engineering resin series are formulated without the use of phosphate, bromine and chloride flame retardant. With their high UL rating and excellent impact performance, these attributes make them an unbeatable choice for power adapter and projector applications.

High Transparency and High Reflective IRPC for Lighting Applications

EMERGE™ PC 8410LT engineering resin is a transparent resin that allows very high light transmission. The resin is designed with high UL and melt flow rate that fulfill the industrial requirements for LED applications such as lenses, optics, covers, housings, light diffusers, etc.

In additional, Styron also developed two highly reflective IRPC resins for the lighting industry: TRINSEO CELEX™ 3600 advanced resin and EMERGE™ PC 8130 engineering resin. These high reflective PC reins provide the required light reflection with excellent anti-UV performance and good thermal reliability. And by replacing the metal and ceramic parts of lighting products with these two advanced resins, the total weight can be further reduced.

During Chinplas on 19 April, 2012, Styron will organize a technical seminar for our customers on innovative solutions. During the seminar, sustainable solutions such as the paint-free solution for ITE and auto interior, and post-consumer recycle solutions will be covered. Moreover, some high performance products will be introduced as well, including a slim solution for power adaptor and projector, high transparency IRPC for lighting industry and a new PC/ABS alloy for lower temperature environments.

To further enhance Styron’s position in the region, we are delighted to launch the “Technologies Licensing Program” this month. Through this program, Styron will license process technologies and related production rights of mass acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (mABS), polycarbonate and styrene monomer.
