In May 2014, Trinseo launched its global Volunteer Days program based on
the natural outgrowth of the Company’s belief in supporting and giving
back to the local communities in which its employees live and work. The
program spanned an eleven-day period, during which 450 Trinseo employees
in 11 countries volunteered for a total of 2,004 hours—equivalent to 251
working days.
For 2015, Trinseo extended the event to span 30 days beginning on May 16
and leading up to the fifth anniversary of its formation on June 17.
Locally-formed volunteer committees used their creativity to coordinate
activities that encompassed qualities of teamwork and problem solving,
to serve as both a teambuilding exercise and volunteer opportunity.
“Supporting the local communities in which we operate has been a core
value at Trinseo since we formed in 2010,” said Chris Pappas, president
and CEO. “We are so proud of our employees who have demonstrated, on a
global level, a deep commitment to making a positive difference in their
local communities.”
For the second year, the largest event was held in Schwalbach, Germany
where Trinseo volunteers, including two hairdressers, hosted an event
for 250 homeless people. The event included haircuts, a luncheon with
food provided by a local supermarket, and a clothing drive. Other
volunteer activities covered a broad spectrum from donating blood; to
cleaning up a local park, home to 300 animals; to assisting the elderly
in need; to teaching, cleaning, repairing, and painting a local school;
to collecting and donating money, books, and food for families in need.
At every event, volunteers wore Company provided T-shirts with the
Volunteer Days logo on them, raising Trinseo’s visibility in the
community while adding a splash of color to the day’s events.
“With 36% of our total workforce participating in Trinseo Volunteer Days
in 2015, this program was an even bigger success than it was in its
inaugural year,” said Catherine Maxey, Trinseo’s vice president, Public
Affairs, Sustainability and Environment, Health and Safety. “I want to
thank everyone who participated in 2015, and especially those who played
a role in organizing these events and motivating colleagues to get
involved. We definitely plan to continue the program next year, and hope
for even greater participation.”
